  What is the difference between an ATM Card and a Debit Card?

ATM card is a proprietory card of the Bank and can be used only at Andhra Bank ATMs whereas DEBIT CARD can be used at any of the VISA affiliated ATMs of any Bank globally, at POS terminals internationally and also over Internet.

Precisely, ATM card can be used only at Andhra Bank ATMs in India  whereas our Debit Card is VISA affiliated and can be used all over the world.

  System is not allowing card issuance against accounts with same CUSTID?

Only one card can be issued to a CUSTID, irrespective of the no. of accounts it has. Eg: if a customer has more than one account (with the same CUSTID) even at different branches of the bank, only one card can be issued against them.  Out of the accounts, one account can be named as Primary Account as per customer’s choice and the other accounts can only be linked/delinked to the card, but more than one card cannot be issued to a single CUSTID.

  After de-linking  the account from a card whether branch can issue a fresh card            to the customer?

If the account is PRIMARY and the card does not have any other secondary account/s, system permits only SURRENDER of the card if the customer does not require it.  But, subsequently, if the customer requests for issuance of new card for the account, branch can issue a fresh card for the account.

When more than one account is linked to a card, the secondary accounts only can be delinked from the card.

In case of delinking of any secondary account, the same can be linked again upon the request of the cardholder.  But, it may noted that ONCE A PRIMARY ACCOUNT,  it will always be a PRIMARY ACCOUNT and  ONCE A SECONDARY ACCOUNT, it will always be a SECONDARY ACCOUNT.  The accounts cannot be interchanged even if an existing card is surrendered by the customer and approaches the branch at a later for a new card.

In a nutshell, system does not permit naming a secondary account (which was delinked previously) as primary account subsequently and vice-versa.

  How branch can issue a card to CODST account in case of transfer?

Though system permits issuance of a card to the CODST, it may be advised to the staff to obtain a non-personalized card for an SB account as PRIMARY one at any branch of their choice and link the CODST account as secondary one.

The above procedure has twin advantages viz.

Firstly, when an employee is transferred, the secondary account (CODST) can be delinked from the card and the new CODST account opened at the transferred branch can conveniently be linked to the existing card ;

Secondly, when the card is used at the POS machines, system accesses the primary account only for authorizing the transaction.  As the available balance in the CODST account will normally be huge, in case of unauthorized usage of the card, the account will not be exposed to risk.

  Any precautions to be taken while surrendering the card during closure of the        account?

While closing the account, system prompts to surrender the card issued, if any, to the account and also to delink all the secondary accounts linked to it.

As already detailed above, since system does not permit issuance of new cards against delinked accounts, branches may enlighten the customers accordingly before closing the accounts.
